It's the year 1878. At the first excavations in today's Turkey archaeologists discover remains of ancient Pergamon. Soon the finds make up precious exhibitions that intrigue the public.
The players attempt to receive ample parts of the federal research funds to cover the expenses of their excavations. If you are modest and do not demand too much, you will be able to go to the excavation sites before your competitors.
That can be crucial, because: first come, first dig! The last ones, however, may only get a few leftovers. The unearthed treasures can be joint together to form valuable exhibitions and yield the finder plenty of fame and appreciation.
The clever combination of obtaining funds and racing for the best excavation spots turns Pergamon into a diversified game with easily accessible rules.
