The aged king sits in the highest tower of Titania. He is troubled, because he has not yet decided who will succeed him to the throne. His niece talks of the former splendour of Titania, recalling how it had been encircled by magnificent oceanic towers that have now become fallen ruins.

These towers served not just to show the splendour of Titania, but also pointed the way there, for travellers and traders, ensuring the flow of trade and exchange of knowledge with other lands. Inspired, the king decides that his successor should be the prince of Titania who most skilfully restores the old towers. The princes send out their ships in search of valuable shells to rebuild the oceanic towers, so that Titania will shine out again with renewed brilliance.
