Hārūn al-Rashīd (est. 762 - 809 AD) is the name and Iaqab of the fifth great Caliph of the Abbasid Dynasty, who ruled the Islamist ummah from 786 to 809 A.D. His kingdom was marked by prosperity in many sectors, including culture, science, politics and government. His life and the fabulous court he lived in have been the subject of many tales; some of these tales are based on actual facts, but many more are fictional. The famous literary work "Arabian Nights" includes many tales that may have been inspired by events which occurred at Harun's lavish court. This game simulates the life, trade, and court intrigues of the various factions struggling to increase their wealth and win the favor of this mighty ruler.
In Al-Rashid, every player controls a family that is trying to win over the favor of the sovereign. The game’s objective is to gain as many Prestige Points as possible.
You can earn Prestige Points by joining a Guild, obtaining important social titles, and increasing the numbers of members (pawns) in your family. Since there are costs associated with attaining
these important status symbols, you have to dedicate a certain amount of time and effort trading in luxury wares.
Players use pawns to represent their family members. Pawns can be placed on the map (the lower part of the board) to acquire luxury wares, or in the city (the upper part of the board) to obtain titles, ask for favors, and use Guild services
