It is the initial night bombing campaign by the British Bomber Command. At this time Bomber Command found itself technically equipped but tactically not in a position to deliver destructive knock out blows. It was, however, prepared to test the boasts of the optimistic Reichsmarshal Göring who said, “If an enemy bomber reaches the Ruhr… you can call me Meier!"
During these early attacks the bombers did not fly in compact formations but had to fight their way to their targets individually. This often resulted in disorganized and dispersed attacks. Churchill saw fit, after the fall of France and during the battle of Britain, to take the war deep into German occupied territory.
Experience the same feelings as you fly a lone Wellington bomber through the watchful German defenses on the way to your nightly target!
